Gracie

We got a call in April about a dog in Brooklyn, NY who had been tied to a telephone pole and beaten. A homeless man had her there, hitting and kicking her, while she had no way to escape. A passerby saw what was happening, stepped in, and fought him off to save her. He then brought her to the local precinct. That moment is the reason she’s still here.

Now she has a name. Gracie.

When she arrived, all you could see were her bones. So thin it hurts to look at. Her body tells the story of neglect, hunger, and pain. But it’s her eyes that stay with you. Confused. Exhausted. Still searching for someone to be kind to her. The abuser was not found but the abuse was obvious.

We will never understand how someone could do this to her. How a dog so innocent could endure so much cruelty.

But we do know this. Her story is not over. Gracie is safe now. She will never be tied to a pole again. She will never be someone’s punching bag again. She will learn what it feels like to be touched gently, to be fed every single day, to finally rest without fear.

Right now she has gained weight, is spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped and ready for adoption! Will you give Gracie a new leash on life?
